This policy applies to the Tigrinya Translator mobile application available on Google Play and the Apple App Store. Tigrinya Translator is a general-purpose translation app and is not directed at children.
Tigrinya Translator translates text and photos between Tigrinya, English, Arabic, Swedish, and Chinese. Tigrinya โ English is free; other language pairs are planned for a future Premium update (not yet available). Translation, camera text-reading, and phrasebook content are generated using Anthropic's Claude AI.
Camera / photo library: requested only when you choose to translate a photo. Unlike an on-device-only feature, the photo is sent through our backend server to Anthropic's API to read and translate any text in it. It is not stored by us afterward.
Text-to-speech: the app can read translations aloud using your device's built-in speech synthesis. No audio is recorded, sent anywhere, or stored.
We do not share data with any other third parties and we do not sell data.
Translation history, favorites, and corrections are stored locally on your device only, using the device's local storage. This data does not leave your device and is not accessible by us. Uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data. We do not retain copies of your translations or photos on our server โ they pass through only to reach Anthropic's API.
This version of the app doesn't offer any in-app purchases โ Premium language unlocking is planned for a future update. This section will be updated with real details once that's live.
Tigrinya Translator is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect data from children.
You can clear your saved history, favorites, and corrections at any time from within the app's Saved tab. Uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data.
We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify users of significant changes by updating the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of Tigrinya Translator after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

Why is only Tigrinya โ English available right now?
Arabic, Swedish, and Chinese support is in active development and coming in a future update. Tigrinya โ English is fully free in the meantime.
Is my data private?
Yes โ see the Privacy Policy above for full details. Your translation history stays on your device, and we don't show ads or sell data.
The app isn't translating, or the camera says "try a clearer photo" โ what do I do?
Check that you have an internet connection, then try again. If it still isn't working, email us with your device type and what happened, and we'll look into it.
How do I report a bug or request a feature?
